Road Sisters Roar to the Shore 2016
September 8-11, 2016 was the 20th annual Roar to the Shore bike rally in Wildwood, New Jersey. This just might be the largest FREE motorcycle rally in the east coast with multiple vendor areas, stunt shows, bike shows, and tons of live music. This mid-atlantic location is just quick ride from New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and is just across the bay from Delaware. We zigged and zagged our way through back roads from Central Jersey to enjoy another long weekend on two wheels.
This rally is my favorite beach town take over, but maybe I am biased because I live in New Jersey. There are motorcycles and bikers everywhere. During the day, there is so much to do on the boardwalk, beach or rally tents. We took a leisurely ride on the giant Ferris Wheel and tried unsuccessfully to resist the delicious smell of fresh funnel cake that wafted from the boardwalk to the bike rally. If looking for a local ride, Historic Cape May, New Jersey is close and easy to please both the foodie and historian in your pack. We even stumbled upon two beach weddings at Cape May Lighthouse and a World War II camp reenactment at Cold Springs Historic Village.
At night, well...we get a little wild in Wildwood. First, there are countless bars, pubs, and lounges and they all have some type of live music. So we drink, we dance, and we enjoy the company of like minded wanderers. When the bars close and lights come up...the stars are still out and there is the rare (although not quite legal) opportunity to take a night stroll on the secluded, dark and romantic beach. Have your ever peered out in the middle of the night and just listened the surf come in from the darkness? It is serene and profound and one of those moments I may not have ever experienced if I did not ride, because why would I have ended up there at that moment?
And for those like me, who can party into the night and still rise with the sun...what a beautiful site. Sunrise over Wildwood Beach just made me wonder where the next ride will take me. Another great bike rally in the north east! We will be sure to Roar to the Shore again in 2017 and hopefully will see you there.
